This project involved the transformation of a mid-century brick ranch house into an Arts & Crafts home for friends who delight in the style. On the exterior, a new front facing gable, common of the arts and crafts style, was integrated into the design, placing kitchen, dining room and living room spaces on a visual axis and raises the ceiling heights, allowing for transom windows. Good Arts and Crafts house parts were introduced including exterior trellises, stained shingle siding, half-round gutters, wood trim, earth tone colors, warmly stained interior oak trim and paneled doors, oak panel wainscoting, etc. An extensive landscape plan was developed utilizing native plant materials and stone hardscape. A new, elevated back patio area with sunken barbeque/fire pit and covered shelter area offer an outdoors respite for the adults to relax and for grandkids to play in this richly textured environs.
