COLONIAL HEARTH ROOM
This project is a hearth room addition and kitchen remodel with garage extension and new laundry room to a brick Colonial home in an established suburban neighborhood in SW Omaha. The exterior wall of the existing Kitchen was opened its entire breadth, overlooking a new hearth room, which is three steps down from the main floor and opens to a new patio area. A vaulted ceiling in the new hearth room allows a large-scaled, semi-circular custom designed window on the end wall. A cupola with light monitors, French doors and variety of windows combine to flood the interior with natural light. A new fireplace is provided with custom designed built-in bookshelves. A dinette area is located in the new hearth room adjacent to the Kitchen and is punctuated by a semi-circular wood floor treatment. A crown mold light trough extends along each side of the cathedral ceiling concealing low-voltage lighting and accommodates recessed can lighting. The mannerist style of the new addition is complementary to the existing Georgian/ Colonial style.
